Charles Manson's crazy-eyed stare has lost its edge.
A new photo of the cult leader and convicted serial killer surfaced Thursday, a week before the 77-year-old is set to have his 12th parole hearing.
The picture, taken in June at the state prison in Corcoran, Calif., was released after a request by CNN.
"He looks a lot different," department of corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton told the cable news network.
Manson is shown with grey hair and beard, his once rigid features softened. The infamous swastika, however, is still clearly visible on his wrinkled forehead.
The "Helter Skelter" killer, serving a life sentence for ordering the murders of actress Sharon Tate — the pregnant wife of movie director Roman Polanski — and six others in August 1969, was last seen in a photo released in 2009.
